Weddings in Spain
Real weddings. Real stories. Plenty of joy.
I hope these photographs show how much of a couple’s character a ceremony can hold when it is created around them.

Kindred spirits with a shared love of adventure, travel and the life they have built together in Spain.
This couple celebrated their wedding at the beautiful Ona Mar Menor Golf Resort & Spa, surrounded by family and friends who had travelled from across Spain and the UK to share their day. Their ceremony reflected the warmth, humour and sense of adventure that have defined their relationship from the very beginning. What started with a chance meeting grew into a shared life in Spain, filled with travel, good food, sunsets and dreams of adventures still to come.
A love that began on the telephone and outlasted a pandemic
They married at Restaurante La Terreta near the Arenal beach in Javea, after a relationship that began during lockdown. Long conversations allowed a deep connection to grow before they were able to meet in person, proving that sometimes you really can fall in love with someone you have never seen. Their first chapters included thoughtful surprises, plenty of laughter and a proposal over dinner, where nervousness was amusingly mistaken for concern about ordering dessert! They completed their ceremony with a handfasting, symbolising the life they had chosen to share.
In their own words
We had a fantastic day at La Terreta in Javea. Kathleen our celebrant was amazing. She totally took on board everything we told her about how we wanted our ceremony to be (not formal). She took time to find out our story of how we met etc and incorporated it all into the ceremony. All of our family and friends loved it. Kathleen is a genuinely lovely person and her kindness and care really shone through. She made our day feel personal, heartfelt, and really memorable.

Together since they were teenagers, and in no hurry at all
They married on the terrace at Restaurante Dos Toros in Benissa Costa, with the Peñón de Ifach rising behind them. They first crossed paths while still at school, although it took a small act of kindness and a door held open for them to really notice one another. From those early days, they grew up side by side through studies, new jobs and their first home together. Years later, a proposal at a favourite local beauty spot, with a carefully chosen ring that held personal meaning, brought them back to the Costa Blanca to celebrate everything they had built together.
In their own words
We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful celebrant for our wedding in Spain. From the very beginning, she took the time to really get to know us and find out more about our story, which made the ceremony feel so personal and meaningful.
Kathleen’s attention to detail was incredible, and it was clear how much care and thought she put into making the ceremony special for us. She made everything feel very personable and natural, and she engaged so well with both us and our guests.
She brought such a warm and genuine presence to our day, and we’re so grateful for the part she played in making our wedding so memorable. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a celebrant who truly takes the time to make your ceremony feel unique to you.
Best friends by choice, in love by faith
They married at Ona Mar Menor Golf Resort and Spa in Mar Menor, Murcia, after a relationship that began when they met through work. Their proposal took place on the beach, somewhere already filled with precious family memories, and was thoughtfully timed to honour someone deeply loved and missed. Family remained at the heart of their wedding day, taking part in the entrance, bringing forward the rings and sharing in a ceremony made especially personal by the couple adding their own words to their formal vows.
In their own words
Dear Kathleen, We wanted to take a moment to express our deepest appreciation for you as our amazing wedding Celebrant in 2023. Everything flowed seamlessly, A ceremony without any worry. That's a huge deal and something we'll never forget. To arrive at the end of the red carpet and be emerged in your guidance and blessing was amazing. Kindest thanks to you,
Eight years in, and marking a milestone rather than a beginning
They married at Restaurante Dos Toros in Benissa Costa, where they celebrated their proposal evening. Their ceremony reflected a relationship that had grown into something truly special because they make a real team together. They are quite classically balanced: one is a little chaotic and a 'big picture' thinker, while the other is more structured and detailed. They might bicker about the little stuff one minute, such as a borderline aggressive debate about international free market economic policy, then cuddle up on the sofa to watch a Ghibli film ten minutes later.
What began with an introduction by mutual friends became a new life built together in Spain.
They married at Costa Rock Café in Orihuela, surrounded by the family and friends who have been part of their story from the beginning. What started as a friendship grew into something more, leading to a rooftop proposal overlooking the salt lakes and the Orihuela mountains, and eventually to the leap they took together to build a new life in Spain. There was plenty of room for laughter too, especially when recalling the first six months of their relationship, when the bride could barely understand a word her Glaswegian groom said!
Two solo travellers who stopped travelling alone
They married in the gardens at Salones Carrasco in Javea, eight years after having met in Thailand as two young solo travellers. A spontaneous train journey and an afternoon walk along the beach marked the beginning of a connection that would endure across countries and continents. During those three unforgettable days, they stopped travelling alone and started travelling through life together. Their ceremony included a sand blending and a vow to hold each other’s hand through whatever comes next, even the boggy bits.

One ceremony, held in two languages, for two families.
This wedding took place on the terrace at Restaurante Dos Toros in Benissa Costa, above the pines, with the Peñón de Ifach across the bay and the wedding arch beside the pool. Kathleen presented the ceremony in Spanish and a close friend of the couple translated and presented in Swiss German, allowing both families to share fully in the occasion. The couple prefer not to have photographs of themselves shared, so this gallery focuses on the setting and on Kathleen, the wedding planner Chiara and the family friend who presented the Swiss German part of the ceremony.
My first wedding as a celebrant, and a joyful beginning
This couple married overlooking the beautiful backdrop of the resort gardens in Mar Menor, Murcia. Their story began at an early-morning fitness boot camp, where one was drawn to a shy smile and the other to warm laughter and easy conversation. A carefully planned proposal followed at a family Christmas gathering, with everyone in on the secret except the bride, who was left completely speechless. Their warm and joyful ceremony marked an important new beginning for them and for me.
