Working with your mind, not against it

Hypnotherapy for ADHD

People sometimes come to see me because ADHD is making a particular part of daily life feel difficult. They may want help with overwhelm, self-criticism or an unhelpful pattern that keeps getting in the way.

You might recognise this

A mind full of ideas, with some tasks still feeling almost impossible to begin.

Losing track of time, plans or belongings, even when you are trying very hard.

Feeling overwhelmed by ordinary demands, then being much harder on yourself than you would be on anyone else.

You are special and unique.

ADHD is not a character flaw or proof that you are not trying. Your experience is personal, and the difficulty you want to change may be only one part of a busy, creative and capable life.

Hypnotherapy does not diagnose or treat ADHD itself. It may offer a calm, focused way to work with a particular response, feeling or habit alongside appropriate ADHD care.

If everyday demands leave you overwhelmed or frustrated with yourself, you don't have to explain your mind perfectly: tell me what feels difficult and we can explore whether hypnotherapy could help you work with your unique way of thinking.

An individual experience

ADHD can look different from one person to another.

ADHD is a condition associated with differences in attention, activity and impulse control. For an adult, it may affect organisation, timekeeping, remembering, starting or finishing tasks, relationships and work. Some people feel physically restless. Others experience most of the activity inside their thoughts.

There can be strengths too, including energy, curiosity, creativity and the ability to become deeply absorbed in something interesting. A useful conversation makes room for the whole person rather than reducing you to a list of difficulties.

You do not need to diagnose yourself before speaking to me. We can begin with what is happening now, what you have already tried and the specific change you would like to make.

One useful focus at a time

How might hypnotherapy fit alongside ADHD care?

Hypnosis is a calm, absorbed state in which you remain aware and in control. It does not make ADHD disappear or turn you into a different kind of person.

Instead, we choose a clear, personally meaningful focus. We might explore an automatic response to pressure, practise returning to a task after distraction, work with unhelpful self-talk or create a short self-hypnosis routine you can use when your mind feels overloaded.

The work is adapted to you. Depending on what you want to change, our sessions may focus on helping you:

  • Feel calmer when demands begin to pile up
  • Approach a task with less dread or avoidance
  • Respond more gently to mistakes, criticism or a difficult day
  • Settle your thoughts when it is time to rest
  • Notice an automatic pattern sooner and make a more deliberate choice
  • Use a simple self-hypnosis practice between sessions

These are possible aims, not promised outcomes. We agree together what would actually be useful in your life.

What matters to you

The reason for coming is often very specific.

Overwhelm and stress

You want a way to pause when everything feels equally urgent, so you can decide what needs your attention first.

Starting and returning to tasks

You know what you want to do, but avoidance, distraction or fear of getting it wrong keeps interrupting the next step.

Settling at the end of the day

Your thoughts gather speed when you want to rest, and you would like to practise a calmer transition into the evening.

Confidence and self-criticism

Years of being told to try harder have shaped the way you speak to yourself, and you would like that inner response to change.

Your story, your pace

What working with me is like.

We begin with a conversation. Tell me what life is like for you and what you would most like to be different. You do not need to present your thoughts in a neat order, and you will not be expected to disclose anything you do not want to discuss.

I will explain everything about hypnotherapy and you can ask me any questions you like. During hypnosis you remain aware and in control. We agree the focus together, and I adapt the session to you rather than expecting you to fit a standard script.

If you would like to understand the process first, you can read more about what hypnotherapy is and what hypnosis feels like.

I work with adults in person in Moraira and through online hypnotherapy. There is no fixed course. After the first session, we talk about how it went and what, if anything, feels right for you next.

Diagnosis and existing care

Hypnotherapy is complementary support.

If you already have an ADHD diagnosis, hypnotherapy can sit alongside care agreed with your doctor or ADHD specialist. It does not replace specialist treatment, practical adjustments or medication.

If you think you may have ADHD, a web page or self-assessment cannot give you a diagnosis. Please speak to a doctor or appropriately qualified ADHD specialist. For accessible English-language information, you can read the NHS guide to ADHD in adults and the NICE ADHD guidance. These are UK sources, so they are useful information rather than a description of healthcare arrangements in Spain.

Do not stop or change prescribed ADHD medication without advice from the clinician responsible for it. Please tell me about relevant care so that we can discuss how hypnotherapy may fit alongside it.

A personal decision

Is hypnotherapy right for you?

Hypnotherapy may be worth exploring if there is a specific feeling, response or habit you would like to work on, whether or not you have an ADHD diagnosis. Suitability is something we discuss together, taking your circumstances and any other care into account.

Hypnotherapy can complement appropriate medical or mental health care, but it is not a substitute for professional assessment or treatment. If you are struggling to cope or are concerned about changes in your mood, thinking or daily life, please speak to a doctor or qualified mental health professional.
